The test

Scientifically recognised

In psychology, the term 'Big Five' refers to a personality model made up of five main traits.
This model was proposed by the American psychologist Lewis Goldberg in 1981 and developed by Costa and McCrae in 1987-1992. It is a benchmark in theoretical personality research and has been used to create the psychological profiles of millions of people around the world.

A series of analyses enables links to be established between the Big Five test measures and various aspects of behaviour:

  • Professional performance: Conscientious performance is associated with this, whatever the profession and whatever the assessment criteria.
  • Personality disorders: Each of the ten categories of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders corresponds to a unique profile of the Big (these profiles share a high level of neuroticism and a low level of agreeableness).
  • Lifestyle habits

The Big Five are not completely independent of each other, so a description that evaluates a person according to each of these categories is partly redundant.

In the 2010s, the principle of Big Five testing was used by SCL Group for military and political purposes, and then for partisan purposes through its subsidiaries Cambridge Analytica and Aggregate IQ.

The test is a value recognised and used by many companies and industries around the world.
